Engineering a better escalator step

A cast aluminium escalator step with trailing wheel

This weblog details how an escalator step can be eco-engineered in such a way that its carbon footprint is reduced over its life cycle.

The standard step is made as a composite of many parts of various materials that are assembled in the factory. The current proposal is to replace this with a single-piece diecast step.
